Arsenic is a toxic element for living beings, present at high concentrations in certain agricultural areas, such as India. Arsenic, similar to phosphate, is absorbed by the plant for the phosphate transport systems. Previous results from the group where this work has been carried out, indicated that high concentrations of K+ lead to phosphate deficiency, therefore, it would be expected also to reduce the accumulation of arsenic in plants. To test this hypothesis it has been studied the effect of high concentrations of K + in Arabidopsis plants grown in the presence of arsenic. The results show that the K + decreased the arsenic toxicity, although this positive effect of K + appears to be more complex than simply reducing the accumulation of arsenic in the plant
