Cyberbullying: Common Predictors to Cyber-Victimisation and Bystanding

Título : Cyberbullying: Common Predictors to Cyber-Victimisation and Bystanding
Autor : Lloret-Irles, Daniel; Cabrera-Perona, Víctor; Tirado-González, Sonia; Segura-Heras, José V.
Resumen : Cyberbullying has increased worryingly in the last decade, becoming a mental health
problem in adolescence. Research usually focuses on cyber-bullies or cyber-victims, overlooking
that these roles may overlap (e.g., cyber-victim-bystander). Aim: To identify possible common
predictors to cyber-victimisation and bystanding. Sample: The study sample consisted in 560 students,
12–15 years old, 47.5% female. Method: Canonical correlation, examining linear relationship between
a group of X variables, and a group of Y variables. Main results and conclusions: Two canonical
varieties were built (Cor (U1,V1) = 0.442; Cor(U2,V2) = 0.270). Minors with high scores in cybervictimisation
(r = 􀀀0.888) and bystanding (r = 􀀀0.902) would have more favourable attitude towards
violence, greater number of contacts on social networks/messaging and greater attention to emotions.
The second variety discriminates minors with high cyber-victimisation score, but low observation
and would relate to low attitudes towards violence and contacts on social networks/messaging,
together with high scores in parental monitoring. Results suggest the possible overlapping of roles
and how cyber-victimisation and bystanding share predictive factors.

Early Detection of Gambling Among At-Risk Adolescents. Validation of EDGAR-A Scale

Título : Early Detection of Gambling Among At-Risk Adolescents. Validation of EDGAR-A Scale
Autor : Cabrera-Perona, Víctor; Lloret-Irles, Daniel; Núñez-Núñez, Rosa
Resumen : Despite the fact that minors have prohibited access to commercial gambling, and
legislation trying to constrain gambling, an important proportion declares that they
have bet either online, or by illegally entering gambling venues. This situation
highlights the need to implement selective prevention programs that requires
assessment tools to identify vulnerable groups. This paper aims to design and
validate a scale of evaluation for the psycho-social characteristics that predict onset
and maintenance of gambling behavior among adolescents. 2,716 students of
Secondary Education, 15.12 years (± 1.03) answered a frequency, intensity and
problematic gambling questionnaire and a scale to evaluate risk profiles. The
resulting scale is compounded by 26 items classified in 4 sub-scales: Accessibility,
Risk Perception, Normative Perception and Parental Attitudes. Internal consistency
coefficients were: 0.668, 0.728, 0.746 and 0.818 respectively, and 0.811 for the total
scale. Results offer a robust support on the structural validity and internal
consistency of the Early Detection of Gambling among At-Risk Adolescents
(EDGAR-A) Scale, a useful tool for the design and assessment of effective preventive
interventions.

Autor : Pérez-Gonzaga, Sergio; Lloret-Irles, Daniel; Cabrera-Perona, Víctor
la actualidad.; The profits obtained by the gambling industry in Spain represent
almost one point of GDP and the proportion of minors who have
gambled has reached a quarter. This situation occurs despite the
law regulating gambling, which included among its objectives the
prevention of addictive behaviors, as well as the protection of minors
and other vulnerable groups. Recently, an additional regulation was
approved to control gambling advertising. Bearing in mind the new
regulatory context, we analyze the relationship between advertising
and gambling in adolescents and young adults, studying especially
young people who have already gambled and minors. We conducted
an empirical investigation with a sample of 2,181 adolescents and
young adults who filled out a questionnaire on gambling and
advertising. We found that the variables associated with advertising
are significantly related to gambling behavior and that, in addition,
this correlation occurs with greater magnitude in men. We obtained
higher scores in advertising influence among those subjects who have
ever gambled compared to those who have not, highlighting the
importance of discouraging the arrival of new gamblers. Regarding
minors, we found significant differences in the different variables of
advertising influence compared to young adults. These findings point
to the need to evaluate this influence considering the new habits and
interests of minors today.

d=0,07), intención (t=3,01, p<0,01, d=0,12), percepción
de riesgo (t=-502, p<0,001, d=0,20), actitudes (t=5,77,
p<0,001, d=0,21), norma subjetiva (t=2,17, p<0,05,
d=0,08). Cannabis: intención (t=2,98, p<0,01, d=0,11),
percepción de riesgo (t=-3,99, p<0,001, d=0,14), actitudes
(t=6,19, p<0,001, d=0,23).
marco teórico.; Background: Alcohol and cannabis consumption in
young people aged 14 to 18 years show high and stable
prevalence and incidence. The Instituto de Adicciones de
Madrid Salud (IAMS) within its prevention strategy aimed
at adolescents and young people in Madrid, implements an
universal 3-sessions school-based prevention program. To
evaluate the effectiveness of a program aimed at alcohol
and cannabis from the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB,
Ajzen, 1991), we analysed the changes in consumption and
intention of consumption, attitudes and subjective norm as
well as in the risk perception.
Methods: Quasi-experimental design. Participants:
Over 1,529 students belonging to 12 high schools in
Madrid (M=15.36 years, DT=1.13, range: 13-18, 51.8%
boys) Experimental group: N=790, intervention period
October-December 2018. Control group: N=469. The
Student’s t test was used for the repeated means test. When
the difference between the means was significant, the effect
size was calculated using Cohen’s d index.
Results: Alcohol: consumption (t=2.08, p<0.05,
d=0.07), intention (t=3.01, p<0.01, d=0.12), risk perception
(t=-502, p<0.001, d=0.20), attitudes (t=5.77, p<0.001,
d=0.21), subjective norm (t=2.17, p<0.05, d=0.08).
Cannabis: intention (t=2.98, p<0.01, d=0.11), risk perception
(t=-3.99, p<0.001, d=0.14), attitudes (t=6.19, p<0.001,
d=0.23).
Conclusions: Students who received the intervention
reduced the favourable attitudes and intention of alcohol
and cannabis consumption and alcohol consumption, and
increased the risk perception on both substances, with significant
differences, but low effect sizes. Related to control
group and regarding cannabis there were no significant differences.
The program has been shown to be potentially
effective, but would benefit from a review for fit to its theoretical
framework.

Gambling Advertising Scale).
Dise˜no: Investigación instrumental.
It constitutes
a risk to the mental health of young people and adolescents by promoting a favourable attitude
towards gambling, a higher frequency of gambling and a perception of greater accessibility.
Currently, there is no instrument available to assess the impact of gambling advertising.
Objective: The present study aims to adapt and validate the Impact of Gambling Advertising
Scale (IGAS).
Design: The IGAS scale was translated from English ensuring its linguistic, conceptual and metric
equivalence. The psychometric properties were then tested.
Site: Comunidad Valenciana (Espa˜na).
Participants: 1724 adolescents with a mean age of 16.52 years (SD = .759).
Intervention: Self-administered, paper-based questionnaire in a single measure.
Main measurements: Advertising impact, and gambling intention, severity and availability.
Results: Internal consistency and two-half reliability were good, Cronbach’s ˛ = .782 and ˛ = .70,
respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis concluded that the Spanish version replicates the
original three-dimensional version. Convergent validity analyses showed direct and significant
relationships with different aspects of gambling behaviour, and other predictors.
Conclusion: The adapted version of the IGAS is a reliable and valid measure for the assessment
of the impact of advertising on adolescents. The scale is a useful instrument for the diagnosis
of risk level and the evaluation of preventive interventions.

The goals of this study are: 1) to know the differences in age and gender-related motivations, and 2) to check if there are differences in the
reasons based on state-trait anger levels. An ad-hoc questionnaire was developed, and the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI-2) was
applied to 1188 children sports fans from Spain. Results showed that girls chose social and family reasons. On the other hand, boys stand out for their
choice of antisocial motives, watching their idols, and the competitive motive. Regression analyses showed that lower levels of trait anger are related
with not to choose the motives «I enjoy seeing how they shout and insult» (p<.01; OR = .87), «because it relaxes and calms me» (p<.01; OR = .84)
and «I like the fuss they make» (p<.01; OR = .89). Furthermore, regression analysis showed that lower levels of anger state are related with not to choose
the reason «to be with my friends» (p<.01; OR = .87), «because they shout and insult» (p<.01; OR = .82), «my team is winning» (p<.01; OR = .95),
«I like the fuss» (p<.01, OR = .82); and the reason for joining a supporters’ club is « I like the fuss they make «(p<.01; OR = .49). It was concluded that
there are differences in gender and age depending on the chosen motifs. In addition, state-trait anger influences the motives chosen by young sports
spectators, with youths with higher levels of trait-state anger exercising for the more competitive and unsportsmanlike reasons.

Título : Neurodynamic testing reveals early and increased muscle activation in individuals with nonspecific neck pain: A cross-sectional electromyographic study.
Autor : Gascón Jaén, Jaime; Carrasco Fernández, Juan José; Lozano-Quijada, Carlos; POVEDA-PAGÁN, EMILIO J.; Pérez-Alenda, Sofía
Resumen : Background: Neurodynamic testing has been associated with increased muscle activity; however, differences in
muscle activation between individuals with nonspecific neck pain and asymptomatic individuals during upper
limb neurodynamic testing remain unexplored. This study aimed to examine differences in muscle activity during
upper limb neurodynamic test 1 (ULNT1) and upper limb neurodynamic test 2A (ULNT2A) between individuals
with nonspecific neck pain and asymptomatic individuals.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted including 61 participants: 30 individuals with nonspecific neck
pain and 31 asymptomatic individuals. Muscle activity of the upper trapezius, biceps brachii, triceps brachii, and
flexor carpi radialis was recorded using surface electromyography during ULNT1 and ULNT2A maneuvers.
Findings: Individuals with nonspecific neck pain exhibited earlier onset and greater muscle activation than
asymptomatic individuals across test maneuvers, particularly in the upper trapezius. In ULNT1, significant
between-group differences in upper trapezius activity were observed during shoulder abduction, shoulder
external rotation, and wrist extension (P < 0.001). In ULNT2A, differences were identified during shoulder girdle
depression, elbow extension, shoulder external rotation, wrist extension, and shoulder abduction (P ≤ 0.015).
Consistent between-group differences were also observed in the triceps brachii, biceps brachii, and flexor carpi
radialis across both tests.
Interpretation: Altered muscle activation patterns during upper limb neurodynamic testing indicate modified
neuromuscular control in individuals with nonspecific neck pain. The earlier and increased myoelectric responses
observed are consistent with a protective motor strategy in response to neural loading during neurodynamic
test performance, providing novel insight into neuromuscular responses in individuals with nonspecific
neck pain across muscles and test maneuvers.
