Despite the importance of saccades for vision, there have not been many
systematic studies of them, there are no simple protocols for their study and we do not
have data on their possible alteration in different neurological disorders. Therefore, the
main objective of this work is to deepen the knowledge of saccades movements and
their relationship with different pathologies in biomedical literature tjroughout history.
To develop and validate new protocols that allow the study and quantification of
saccades in a clinical setting. Our results have shown that there are significant
differences in saccadic movements under conditions of photopic vision and scotopic
vision, so that a faster response occurs in conditions of photopic vision, and that when
the object is greater the fixation is reached in the fovea faster than when the object is
smaller. In addition, the most sensitive value and the one we propose to characterize the
saccades is the latency on both the horizontal axis and the vertical axis. Although more
studies are still necessary, our preliminary data suggest that the protocol presented in
this capable of detecting significant alterations of saccades in different neurological
pathologies.
