Hearing disability is a potential factor that it affects emotional management and
self-esteem. When this is even more affected by belonging to the female sex, since
they are doubly discriminated against, due to the fact of being women and suffering
from deafness.
This work presents an emotional intervention program whose target population is
women with hearing impairment, regardless of grade. The goal of this program is to
improve emotion management and increase self-esteem, as well as the ability to
recognize, understand, and canalize emotions. For it, develop a workshop called "Signs
are to the eyes like words to the ears", by designing 15 an hour and a half session,
theoretical-practical, carried out weekly once a week. It will be carried out through the
Spanish Sign Language (LSE), so that everything mentioned above is completely clear
and internalized through this communication system, since in this group it is often their
mother tongue. It will be offered at the Federation of Deaf People of the Valencian
Community (FESORD CV), specifically at the headquarters located in Alicante.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the program, two questions will be administered
that evaluate emotional management and self-esteem, which will be passed at the
beginning of the program and at the end.
The results of the program are expected to be positive, since it would be covering
a very important and lacking need for this group. In addition, to expect a good
participation, since it provides resources and techniques to women with hearing
disabilities, to be able to have an emotional well-being and to be able to increase their
self-esteem.
