There are few studies that exhaustively research the study of film festivals. Film Festivals do not have the same consideration in the field of cultural industries as literary or macro music festivals. However, they are becoming more numerous and it is not clear if a film festival should be a mass media event about cinema, and professional point for industry, or simply a competitive exhibition space. This work rescues the results of 147 interviews done to different professionals related to the audiovisual in order to know what functions are attributed to festivals. The work concludes that there are three tendencies about what functions should been films festivals and they are linked to the interests of the industry, producers and distributors, who value the promotion, distribution and serving of the cinema market; the interests of the creators and professionals of the sector, who consider that they should be that serving as a meeting point for professionals; and finally, the interests of its organizers, that give it a cultural focus where the main theme is cinema. With these results we intend to plant the seed to initiate the debate in the field of the study of film festivals and their functions.es
