La cobertura de los atentados de ETA en la prensa escrita: caso Miguel Ángel Blanco

Abstract

El presente estudio está centrado en analizar el tipo de cobertura que realizaron los diarios El País y ABC sobre el caso de Miguel Ángel Blanco, concejal del Partido Popular en Ermua, que fue secuestrado y asesinado 48 horas después por la banda terrorista ETA. Todo ello se ha efectuado a través de diferentes metodologías, por un lado con un análisis de contenido cuantitativo, ya que se han contabilizado el número de publicaciones sobre el caso durante nuestro periodo de muestra, es decir, desde el día 11 hasta el 18 de julio de 1997. Por otro lado, también ha habido un análisis cualitativo, pues se han realizado entrevistas a personas expertas en ETA y a periodistas de los dos medios analizados. Además, también se han estudiado otros aspectos como las secciones, los géneros y las fuentes de todas las publicaciones. Por tanto, el objetivo principal de este trabajo ha sido descubrir si hubo o no variación a la hora de cubrir el caso del edil en ambos periódicos.

The present study is focused on analyzing the type of coverage made by the newspapers El País and ABC on the case of Miguel Ángel Blanco, councilor of the Popular Party in Ermua, who was kidnapped and murdered 48 hours later by the terrorist group ETA. All this has been done through different methodologies, on the one hand with an analysis of quantitative content, since the number of publications on the case has been counted during our sample period, that is, from the 11th to the 18th. July 1997. On the other hand, there has also been a qualitative analysis, since interviews have been conducted with experts in ETA and journalists from the two media analyzed. In addition, other aspects such as sections, genres and sources of all publications have also been studied. Therefore, the main objective of this work has been to discover if there was or not variation at the time of covering the case of the mayor in both newspapers.
