The active role of the pipsqueak (psq) and escargot (esg) genes in cancer disease in general, and in the processes of cellular invasion and tumor metastasis in particular, has been well established. In the present work, a search has been made of genes that can cooperate with psq and esg in these processes, favoring synergistic actions that help us to reveal a little more the intrinsic molecular mechanisms in this disease. Among the genes found, we highlight dL(3)mbt, a tumor suppressor gene whose alteration causes the deregulation of a large number of genes, many of them with great relevance in the germ line. Through the results obtained in the laboratory, and the performance of a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis, we propose a hypothesis about how this gene, being a member of a protein complex, LINT, acts by repressing these genes under normal circumstances, under the physical and functional interaction of SCM ("sex comb on midleg") and of PSQ-A (isoform A of the pipsqueak protein product) in a mechanism independent of protein complexes belonging to the Polycomb group.
