Introduction. The Adverse Childhood Events (ACE) are a risk factor for a variety of psychological and physical pathologies, including substance use disorders but there are less specific studies focused on the cocaine and cannabis user population. Objectives. The objective of this study is to add some information about the link between ACE and cannabis and cocaine use in adults. Design. Retrospective observational study without control group and one measure. Setting. This study has been carried in along 7 public and private drug treatment centers with either ambulatory, hospitalization or therapeutic community type of treatment, among the whole Murcian region. Participants. 69 patients between 16 and 65 years old were recruited from January to May 2016. Measures. Sociodemographic, ACE and cannabis/cocaine abuse/dependence questionnaires of the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (WHO-CIDI) were used. Results. The studied simple had a more intense story of mental illness among their parents, more household violence, physical and sexual abuse, neglect, severe physical illness and economic adversities during their childhood than the reference sample. Discussion. Results support the hypothesis of an increased prevalence of ACE in people with cannabis and cocaine use disorders compared with general population, mainly for the most severe experiences. Besides, they tend to be unemployed men, with lower education, single who live with their parents. The ACE may be an element to take into account in the study of cocaine, cannabis and alcohol use. Longitudinal studies are needed.
