Age-related prejudices are a common phenomenon in today's societies, but it has been shown that this does not only occur on the part of young people; older people also display negative attitudes towards themselves, which is known as self-ageism. The environment in which a person develops is important, but the literature suggests that there is little evidence on how self-ageism develops in rural contexts. Therefore, the objective of this systematic review is to obtain all existing information on self-ageism in rural areas, in order to expand and add to the evidence on the influence of this phenomenon on the well-being and quality of life of older people living in these contexts. To this end, the procedure established by the PRISMA guide was followed PRISMA guidelines, searching five databases (ProQuest, Web of Science, Pubmed, Scopus and Embase) and including scientific articles in English or Spanish published between 2015 and 2025. To analyse the results, four articles measuring self-ageism in rural contexts are presented. The results indicate, on the one hand, a direct relationship between self-ageism and technological anxiety and depressive symptoms; and on the other hand, mediating effect of self-ageism with social isolation and subjective well-being.es_ES
