Abstract:
Polydrug use is defined as the use of more than one psychoactive substance, either at the same time or sequentially. Substance use disorders affect all or almost all areas of an individual’s functioning, and thus require a multimodal approach. Specifically, this work presents a case study of a 29‑year‑old man diagnosed with three substance use disorders (cocaine, alcohol, and cannabis). The variables that influence the development of each disorder are analyzed, as well as the factors that contribute to their current maintenance. The aim is to describe the 38‑session cognitive‑behavioral treatment applied, combined with pharmacological treatment, and to assess its effectiveness based on changes in anxiety, impulsivity, and craving throughout the process. The study concludes that a comprehensive, motivational, and cognitive‑behavioral intervention can be effective in cases of polydrug use and highlights the need to strengthen prevention and public policies on addictions.
