Heart failure is one of the main challenges facing healthcare systems today. This clinical syndrome, characterized by its chronic nature and the frequent presence of comorbidities, has shown a significant increase in prevalence in recent years. Evidence indicates that therapeutic adherence is a key factor in controlling the disease and reducing hospital admissions and mortality; however, the inherent characteristics of the disease make adequate adherence difficult, highlighting the need for a systematic approach from Primary Care. The aim of this study is to quantify the lack of treatment adherence in patients with heart failure through pill count in the Espinardo Health Center and its associated clinics. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study is proposed, in which 132 patients over 18 years of age diagnosed with heart failure from health district 8 (Murcia/Espinardo) will be included using simple random sampling. The main variable will be treatment adherence, while independent variables will include sociodemographic factors, clinical history, and treatment-related variables among others. Both primary and secondary data are used as sources of information. The study’s findings will be highly significant, not only from a scientific standpoint but also in terms of patient care, as they will shed light on the lack of adherence among the selected patients, thereby enabling the planning and implementation of interventions in the coming months—or even guiding future research—with the aim of addressing this lack of adherence and, at the same time, improving these patients quality of life.
