The aim of this Final Year Project was to analyse the effect of depth, trunk inclination and the width of the base of support on muscle activation during bodyweight squats. To this end, a single-case study was conducted with a physically active male participant using surface electromyography, recording the activity of eight lower-body muscles across eight standardised performance variations, controlled by a metronome and joint stabilisers. The results showed that overall activation levels were low to moderate, with the highest peaks in the adductor magnus and the quadriceps. The deep squat and wide stance maximised quadriceps activation, whilst the adductor magnus and gluteus maximus were most active during the half-squat with a wide stance and an upright trunk. Meanwhile, the rectus femoris showed greater activation with an upright trunk. In conclusion, manipulating the mechanical variables specifically alters the activation profile, although the gluteus medius and biceps femoris showed no substantial variations between the conditions analysed, and the lateral gastrocnemius recorded very low levels of activation.es_ES
