| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | Currently, the role of the Lis1 gene in neuronal development during embryonic stages is well documented. However, insufficient attention has been paid to how its aberrant expression may disrupt the proper postnatal development of specific neuronal subtypes. In the present study, a quantitative analysis of the population of somatostatin-positive (SST+) interneurons in the hippocampus and postnatal dentate gyrus was conducted in mice in which Lis1 expression was selectively ablated in SST+ interneurons, in order to determine whether this neuronal subtype is affected. Our findings reveal a consistent reduction in both the number and density of SST+ interneurons in the dentate gyrus and hippocampus following the deletion of Lis1 expression. These results suggest that this gene may be required for the proper development of these interneurons and that its aberrant expression may lead to postnatal functional alterations potentially linked to the etiology of cognitive phenotypes associated with various neurodevelopmental disorders. | es_ES |
