Introduction: The process of specialisation of podiatry in Spain between 1943 and 1966 reflects the evolution of this discipline from an empirical practice to its recognition as a regulated health profession. Objectives: The general objective is to analyse the process of specialisation of podiatry in Spain between 1943 - the year in which the Law on University Organisation was passed - and 1966 - the year in which the first issue of the Spanish Journal of Podiatry was published - identifying the legislative, academic and professional changes that allowed it to evolve into a recognised and autonomous health discipline. Method: Historical research was carried out based on documentary analysis of primary and secondary sources, including key legislation such as Decree 727/1962 and the Ministerial Order of 1963, as well as academic studies and institutional archives. Results: The results show that the professionalisation of podiatry was consolidated through fundamental milestones, such as the regulation of its training as part of the Technical Health Assistant studies, the opening of the Barcelona School of Podiatry in 1955 and the creation of the Spanish Podiatrists' Association in 1966. In addition, the regulation of professional practice allowed the podiatrist autonomy in the treatment of foot conditions, differentiating him from other auxiliary professions. Conclusions: The regulatory and organisational evolution of podiatry in this period laid the foundations for its recognition as an independent health discipline, facilitating its subsequent integration into the university environment and strengthening its professional status within the Spanish health system.
