Canal Vega, una televisión comarcal en peligro de extinción

Abstract

Esta investigación estudia la situación actual de la emisora pública, Canal Vega, situada en la ciudad de Orihuela (Alicante) desde el año 2001. Es la única televisión de ámbito comarcal que da cobertura a más de 350.000 habitantes repartidos en los 27 municipios que componen la Vega Baja del Segura. Es una emisora fiel a sus espectadores transmitiendo los distintos acontecimientos de índole cultural, social, deportivo, político y religioso. Además, este trabajo contextualiza las televisiones locales a nivel nacional, seguidamente se dará un breve repaso al sector audiovisual valenciano y terminaremos en la provincia de Alicante. Por otro lado también situaremos a la emisora en un marco dentro de su legalidad. Es un canal que actualmente cuenta con una plantilla reducida a consecuencia del Expediente de Regulación de Empleo (ERE) que se originó en 2010, dando lugar a numerosos despidos. La implantación de la Televisión Digital Terrestre (TDT) es otro hándicap ante el cual el canal está expuesto, ya que no ha dado ese paso hacia la digitalización de sus medios. Estos inconvenientes pueden provocar que la elaboración del producto final se vea afectado. Por ello se ha querido estudiar la trayectoria de la emisora hasta la actualidad donde se han planteado diversas hipótesis sobre el futuro de Canal Vega. Para tener un conocimiento más exhaustivo se ha procedido a la realización de una muestra cuantitativa por sexos y edad para obtener datos de audiencia y consumo de la emisora. El objetivo que se pretende es conocer las dificultades laborales ante las que se encuentra Canal Vega y las posibles mejoras que se puedan llevar a cabo para resurgir un canal que se encuentra en una situación de merma total.

The aim of this paper is to assess the current situation of Canal Vega, a financially private but public tv broadcaster, which has existed in Orihuela since 2001. It is the only television broadcaster in the district and it reaches over 350.000 inhabitants living in the 27 towns in Vega Baja del Segura district. It is an audience-oriented broadcaster which issues the main cultural, social, sports, political and religious occasions. Furthermore, this paper sets the local television broadcasters in a national context. Next, a short review on the broadcast media in the valencian field will be carried out, ending in the province of Alicante. Besides, the broadcaster will be also placed in a legal frame. The staff is currently limited as a result of the collective dismissal of employees (ERE) that took place in 2010. The deployment of the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) is also an obstacle that the bradcaster faces, as it has not taken the step towards its means digitalization. All these drawbacks may affect the making of the final product. Accordingly, the track record of the channel has been researched from its beginning until current times, when several hypotheses concerning the future of Canal Vega have been developed. In order to obtain a deeper insight of the situation, a quantitative sample has been carried out concerning audience data as well as the usage of the television broadcaster in terms of age and gender. The target is to learn about the working difficulties that Canal Vega is facing, as well as the improvements that could be carried out to resurface a tv channel that faces a total diminishing.
