Attachment style can significantly influence various developmental factors, including the quality of social and emotional relationships, cognitive development, motivation, effort control, and learning capacity. Objective: The present study aims to analyze the existing evidence on whether there is a significant relationship between the type of parental attachment and academic performance. Methodology: The objective was addressed by conducting a systematic review using the PRISMA Protocol. After selecting studies from specialized databases (Psycinfo, Eric and Scopus), 29 publications were selected to be part of the review. Results: A little over half of the studies claim to have found a significant relationship between attachment type and academic performance. On the other hand, some of them, associate attachment with variables related to self-esteem, motivation and academic adjustment that, in turn, may influence academic performance and others simply find no relationship. Conclusions: Evidence has been found that attachment, especially secure attachment, is significantly related to high academic performance, in addition to influencing other developmental variables. As a future line of research, it would be interesting to conduct a meta-analysis to establish more precise final results.
