Introduction: During pregnancy, Pilates exercises offers a range of physical and emotional benefits, improving mental health and quality of life, and preventing depressive states. This exercise method, focused on movement control and activation of stabilizing muscles, is safe and effective during pregnancy, strengthening key muscles and promoting proper posture. Additionally, Pilates emphasizes breathing and mind-body connection, which can help pregnant women prepare for childbirth, maintaining concentration and relaxation during this crucial stage.
Objective: Understand the benefits/effects of Pilates during pregnancy and the childbirth process.
Methods: A bibliographic search was conducted in 4 databases: Pubmed, Science Direct, PEDro, and SCOPUS.
Results: After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 studies were selected for analysis, evaluating the effectiveness of a physical activity program using the Pilates method during pregnancy and childbirth.
Conclusion: Regular practice of the Pilates Method offers a range of advantages for the mother, both physically and psychologically. These benefits extend to aspects of pregnancy and childbirth, having a positive impact on the mother's condition and health, which also benefits the fetus and newborn.
