Introduction: patellar tendinopathy (PT) is a musculoskeletal disorder that causes progressive pain in the front of the knee, affecting the strength and function of the patellar tendon. It is prevalent in jumping sports such as volleyball and basketball, among others. The etiology of PT is attributed to overuse and poor vascularization of the tendon. There are various classifications and treatments, with conservative treatments being prioritized. This paper reviews the scientific literature to evaluate the effectiveness of these treatments. Objectives: to review physiotherapeutic treatments for patellar tendinopathy and determinate their current effectiveness, as well as ascertain if there is a treatment protocol or clinical guideline for addressing patellar tendinopathy. Material and methods: literature search for studies published from 2019 onwards that addressed patellar tendinopathy from a physiotherapeutic approach perspective in the databases Pubmed, Embase, SPORTDiscus with full text and PEDro. Results: seven studies were included. One compared ultrasound-guided dry needling and conventional physiotherapy with physiotherapy alone. Two compared progressive tendon loading exercises with eccentric exercises; another compared moderated slow resistance training with heavy slow resistance training, and others compared heavy slow resistance training with inertial flywheel resistance. The final study conducted a triple intervention including dry needling, electroacupuncture and eccentric exercises. Conclusions: there are different treatments that show their effectiveness through clinical improvements, with PTLE being the best choice while no treatment guide or protocol has been found for PT.
