Introduction: Plantar warts are the clinical manifestation of HPV infection, representing the second most common reason for consultation, primarily affecting adolescents. Despite being one of the most common skin conditions, it remains a challenge due to the lack of evidence for available treatments, with a high recurrence rate. PDL emerges as a promising second-line therapy for warts resistant to conservative treatments, with studies indicating high efficacy and low adverse effects.
Objectives: To compare the efficacy of PDL treatment for refractory plantar warts among three age groups, assessing healing time and complete eradication. Secondary objectives include analyzing the recurrence rate and immediate as well as long-term adverse effects.
Material and methods: This is a prospective, experimental, and single-center study of patients diagnosed with refractory plantar warts.
Patient recruitment will occur from January 2025 until completing the sample or after 2 years, applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants will be assigned to three age groups and all will receive the same treatment.
Data on medical history and examination will be recorded on an individualized sheet before initiating treatment and at each PDL session until wart eradication. Additionally, follow-up will occur at 15 days, 1, 3, and 6 months after therapy completion.
Statistical analysis will compare PDL efficacy among the three age groups regarding healing time, complete eradication rate, recurrence rate, and treatment safety.
