According to the World Health Organization, gender-based violence (GBV) is a public health
and human rights problem. In Spain, it is estimated that 12.7% of women have suffered
physical, 6.7% sexual and 27.8% psychological GBV by their intimate partner during their
lives. These consequences go hand in hand with an occupational imbalance in multiple areas
as they progressively stop performing meaningful, productive activities, or those related to
their interests and motivations. Therefore, an intervention program is presented with the
objective of improving the occupational balance and establishing or restoring an adequate
performance of women victims of GBV from a gender perspective.
The program is designed for closed groups, with a maximum of 15 users. It consists of 16
sessions grouped into 3 modules to be implemented over 5 months. The modules are:
Self-care, communication and occupations. It is based on the following models
Human Occupation (MOHO) and the Canadian Model of Occupational Performance and the
Pyramid Model, given the importance of including the gender perspective in order not to
reproduce social mandates in the restoration of occupational performance.
To work on these areas, different techniques will be used, such as social skills techniques,
psychoeducation, music therapy, art therapy, role-playing, among others. A battery of tests is
also proposed in order to evaluate their effectiveness in the short and medium term.
