American football is a sport originating from the United States, with the NFL being the quintessential league. In Spain, the sport and the league are experiencing significant growth and gradually gaining more followers. In 2025, the NFL will arrive in Spain, and an international match will be played at the Santiago Bernabeú. Regarding the development of the sport in the country, the Spanish American Football Federation has been organizing the LNFA and other competitions since 1995 to promote the sport. Currently, it is experiencing growth in both followers and players. The ecosystem of this sport continues to expand. Networks like Movistar+ and Dazn have committed to broadcasting the league. Journalism and communication have focused on this magnificent sport, and as a result, the following competitions and the emergence of various elements have only increased. Spanish sports journalism, specializing in American football, has been striving for new narratives for a few years now, attempting to bring such a complex sport to the masses. However, there is still a long way to go to satisfy all parties, thus increasing the following and recognition. Lastly, a variant of the sport, Flag Football, will be an Olympic sport in 2028, enhancing the global reach and growth of the sport. This work focuses on the coverage that Spanish sports journalism provides to this sport, its successes and shortcomings. It explores not only the informational aspect but also the socio-economic aspect, examining audience consumption patterns, the number of people who follow or play the sport in the country, the market at both national and European levels, from the perspective of the different actors involved in the media and sports conglomerate.
