Population aging poses significant challenges in geriatric health, especially in the assessment of physical functionality and the influence of clinical variables such as insomnia, pain, and geriatric depression. This pilot study focuses on investigating the relationships between these variables and performance in balance and gait speed tests in older adults. The aim of this study is to explore the correlations between insomnia, pain, and geriatric depression with physical functionality measured through specific tests in adults aged 65 and older. To this end, a pilot study was conducted with a sample of 100 adults aged 65 and older. Participants were assessed using specific balance and gait speed tests (SPPB). Additionally, questionnaires were administered to measure levels of insomnia (COS), pain (EVA), and geriatric depression (Yesavage). The results showed significant correlations between insomnia, pain, and geriatric depression with balance and gait speed tests. All variables were associated with poorer balance and slower gait speed, negatively affecting physical capabilities in older adults. These findings highlight the importance of addressing insomnia, pain, and geriatric depression in geriatric care to improve physical functionality and quality of life in older adults. Additionally, to develop effective interventions that address these clinical factors in this vulnerable population.
