The most common dementia is Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is a progressive
neurodegenerative disease associated with cognitive, functional and behavioural impairments.
Neuronal degeneration begins about 20 years before symptoms associated with the disease
appear. Nowadays, there are more methods for early detection of the disease. However, not
much information is available about how people at risk of AD cope with their diagnosis.
Therefore, this proposal is made so that people with an early diagnosis of AD can learn, have
tools and take decisions before they start to have symptoms of the disease. The intervention
programme consists of 6 sessions of approximately 60 minutes, in which emotional
management, stress, coping strategies and information about AD and related legal aspects
will be provided. Existing studies on the effects of psychotherapeutic approaches for
individuals with risk or early diagnosis of Alzheimer's dementia are limited. Therefore, future
research should be conducted with larger sample sizes and assessing the effectiveness of the
intervention in both the short and long term.
