The psychopath does not suffer from any mental illness nor is he psychotic; he is not
schizophrenic nor manic-depressive, and he is neither neurotic nor emotionally unstable. In
short, he does not present any disorder, as this would imply a limitation in his behavior.
Psychopathic criminals commit more perverse atrocities against their victims than those
crimes committed by non-psychopathic criminals. However, it is important to highlight that
anyone could be a psychopath, even a successful person in the business world manipulating
their colleagues. The aim of this literature review is to study how childhood influences
modulate the appearance of psychopathic traits that lead to homicide. Nine articles
published between 2019 and 2024 in the Web of Science database were studied, following
the standards of the PRISMA method. The results suggest a significant association between
childhood influence and the development of psychopathic traits in adulthood. Moreover,
there is also a moderate to high association between psychopathic traits and the likelihood
of committing homicide, particularly of becoming a serial killer.
