Introduction: dating violence is a public health problem, which has been related to risk behaviors such as the use of tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, and risky sexual behaviors. In Mexico, the antecedents are scarce and are not con- sistent. Therefore, the objective of this cross-sectional study was to determine if there was a relationship between dating violence and the consumption of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs and risky sex behaviors, in the young Mexi- can population, according to sex. Method: 3,139 students participated (M = 18.87, SD = 1.33), 64.2% were women. Results and conclusions: it wasfound that 3.3% experienced physical violence at least once and 2.4% sexual violence. Statistically significant differences were found between men and women for the risk behaviors of tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, and sexual behavior, where women had a higher prevalence. It was found that there is only a relationship between the use of illegal drugs and sexual violence in the case of women. Future studies could verify if these results are maintained in other Mexican samples and with measures that also explore behaviors of psychological violence.
