It is a proven fact that sport increases the quality of life, improving health at multiple levels and at different intensities. In fact, it has been observed that intensity is an important variable when analyzing health results, with high-intensity sport being the one associated with the best ones. This type of sport generates a remodeling in cardiac structure, morphology and function that improves cardiovascular conditions in subjects. However, it has been seen that this type of sport is not free of risks, being associated with a proarrhythmic effect in apparently healthy individuals and sudden cardiac death in young athletes. This is what has motivated this review and is the working hypothesis, carried out by means of a search and joint analysis of different articles and studies referenced in databases. Thus, although the benefits are mostly known and the risks are an infrequent but not negligible phenomenon due to their important clinical and social impact, these are compelling reasons to carry out a more exhaustive analysis of this situation. Furthermore, the current evidence in this field is partially biased, among other things, by sex and gender inequalities in the study of cardiovascular diseases, generating a palpable disproportion between men and women in both the care process and in research.
