Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system,
with various symptoms that reduce the quality of life of patients. Music therapy is an emerging
approach that uses music and musical elements as a therapeutic intervention. This method has been
used in rehabilitation to stimulate the brain functions involved in movement, emotions, speech, to
support the execution of movement and walking. The objective of this work is to review the scientific
evidence on the effectiveness of music therapy in patients with MS.
Objectives: to examine the effectiveness in the neuro-psychomotor field of music therapy in patients
diagnosed with sclerosis.
Method: A bibliographic review was carried out in databases such as Pubmed, Embase, Scopus and
Web of Science. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to select relevant studies.
Results: 14 studies were included in the review. Most studies showed that music therapy had positive
effects on reducing fatigue, improving mood, quality of life, and gait pattern in MS patients.
Conclusion: The results of this review indicate that music therapy can be effective in the neuropsychomotor
field of patients with multiple sclerosis, compared to other therapies. However, more
research is needed to establish more specific intervention protocols and determine the exact
mechanisms by which music therapy benefits people with MS.
