Nanofibers are nanostructured materials that are particularly useful for encapsulating active compounds, which is why they are gaining popularity in a variety of areas, including the pharmaceutical field. In this study, nanofibers were synthesized using the polymer poly (methyl vinyl ether-alt-maleic acid) (PMVEMA) and two metabolites, L-Tryptophan (L-Trp) and O-Acetyl-L-Carnitine (OALC). The viscosity of the solutions remained constant despite increasing metabolite concentrations. Homogeneous nanofibers without visible defects were obtained, with an average diameter of 367 ± 43 nm for OALC and 487 ± 104 nm for L-Trp nanofibers. Furthermore, it was possible to observe, through the use of infrared spectroscopy, that the metabolite was likely contained within the nanofibers, which was confirmed through high-resolution liquid chromatography after preliminary controlled release assays. Therefore, this study demonstrates that the synthesized nanofibers are capable of effectively encapsulating the metabolites and present great potential for use in controlled release of active compounds in pharmaceutical applications.
