Descripción de la serie de casos intervenidos por la unidad de patología hipofisaria del Hospital Universitario Dr. Balmis de Alicante

Abstract

El tratamiento de la patología hipofisiaria ha sufrido cambios durante el siglo XX con la introducción de nuevas técnicas y abordajes. A finales de los años noventa, se introdujo la cirugía endoscópica transnasal, que, a diferencia de la microcirugía, aportaba una mejor visión al cirujano y permitía una mejor resección tumoral. Este estudio es descriptivo, retrospectivo y observacional sobre los porcentajes obtenidos por las variables prequirúrgicas y postquirúrgicas de los pacientes intervenidos en el Hospital General Doctor Balmis. Se obtiene un grado de resección tumoral total de un 73%, junto a un grado de remisión de los adenomas funcionantes de un 75%, y se compara con la literatura actual. La técnica es segura y eficaz dentro del conocimiento actual sobre la patología.

The treatment of pituitary pathology has undergone changes during the 20th century with the introduction of new techniques and approaches. In the late 1990s, transnasal endoscopic surgery was introduced, which, unlike microsurgery, gave the surgeon a better view and allowed better tumor resection. This study is descriptive, retrospective and observational on the percentages obtained by the pre-surgical and post-surgical variables of the patients operated on at the Doctor Balmis General Hospital. A degree of total tumor resection of 73% is obtained, together with a degree of remission of functioning adenomas of 75%, and it is compared with the current literature. The technique is safe and effective within the current knowledge of the pathology.
