After analyzing more than 30,000 footballers who have played since 1958, in 2nd B (Current
1st RFEF), 2nd and 1st Division, in the teams that are in the historical Top40 of the Spanish
First Division. The following analysis could be performed.
For some years, in the 60s, Elche's youth academy was an example for other Spanish clubs to
follow. But due to different circumstances, such as the crisis that the club faced due to the
construction of the stadium, the youth academy has been neglected. In recent years there have
hardly been any players from the city.
Since 1958, 67 Elche players have played in the first team, which is equivalent to 8.27% of
the total, plus 1 out of every 1,556 men from Elche have played for Elche. These data are low
if we compare them with other clubs such as Real Oviedo where 102 Oviedo players have
played, that is, 1 man out of 958 has played for the city team.
In addition, many people from Elche have played in other teams in Spain, 138 in total. The
clubs that have had the most Elche are Hercules (11), Murcia (5), Sabadell (5) and Cádiz (5).
Those 138 are less than in some of the cities that have inhabitants similar to those of Elche.
Oviedo had 227, Gijón 254 and Vitoria-Gasteiz 163.
The Argentines have been very important for Elche, since it has been the country that has
contributed the most foreigners to the team with 60. The first players began to come, after
Elche's first promotion to the First Division, thanks to an Armenian representative who had
large number of people watching minor leagues in South America. Currently there are a large
number of Argentines in the club, but in the country the club is only followed to find out
about the finances of Bragarnik, owner of Elche.
