Resumen :
Introducción: el aumento abrupto de la incidencia de los casos de endotelitis corneal postoperatoria a partir de la pandemia de COVID-19 hace sospechar una posible relación causal. Introduction: The significant increase in the incidence of postoperative endotheliitis cases since the COVID-19 pandemic raises suspicion of a possible causal relationship. Impaired immunity, both as a result of infection and vaccination against SARS-CoV-2, has been proposed as a possible cause.
Hypothesis: Altered immunity at the systemic level associated with COVID-19 is the cause of the considerable increase in the incidence of postoperative endotheliitis.
Objectives: to describe a series of cases observed in a tertiary ophthalmology center with the aim of establishing the clinical characteristics and treatment guidelines as well as alerting the ophthalmology community to this eventuality.
Material and methods: series of cases seen in a tertiary ophthalmology centre between March 2020 and January 2022 and literature review on the alteration of immunity due to COVID-19 and its implication in endotheliitis, using keywords such as "corneal endothelium", "vaccine", "COVID-19", "herpetic keratitis".
Results: series of cases seen in a tertiary ophthalmology center
Conclusions: Early empirical treatment with corticosteroids and antivirals resolution, supporting a possible viral origin. However, further studies are needed to establish therapeutic guidelines
