Cambios anatómicos del cerebro durante el embarazo

Abstract

Durante el embarazo se producen numerosas y complejas adaptaciones en el cerebro de la mujer embarazada, las cuales permiten el desarrollo de las conductas de cuidado y protección para la supervivencia de la descendencia. Varios estudios de neuroimagen recientes llevados a cabo en madres humanas revelan que la maternidad produce cambios importantes y progresivos a nivel estructural en sus cerebros. Estas modificaciones se han asociado con una adecuada transición del cerebro de la mujer hacia la maternidad. Sin embargo, no se encuentra en la literatura un análisis detallado y completo de los efectos del embarazo en el cerebro humano. En este trabajo se realiza una revisión sistemática sobre los cambios anatómicos del cerebro materno inherentes al embarazo, así como un estudio sobre si estos cambios son perdurables a lo largo del tiempo.
