Nuevas métricas en personas cuidadoras de adultos con Discapacidad Intelectual: una revisión bibliográfica desde la Terapia Ocupacional.

Abstract

La discapacidad intelectual (DI) se entiende como una serie de limitaciones significativas originándose antes de los 18 años de forma crónica. Existen evidencias sobre el alto nivel de estrés de los cuidadores de adultos con DI y sobre cómo la Terapia Ocupacional mejora su calidad de vida. El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar métricas que evalúen la experiencia vital de personas cuidadoras de adultos con discapacidad intelectual desde distintos puntos de vista: la calidad del servicio prestado desde las áreas sanitarias y sociales incluyendo terapia ocupacional y la percepción de su calidad de vida. Por ello, se llevó a cabo una revisión bibliográfica de la literatura científica entre los años 2013 y 2023, utilizando la principal base de datos de ciencias de la salud (Pubmed), de tal búsqueda resultaron 5 artículos que cumplían criterios de inclusión. Se encontró un cuestionario PREM y cuatro cuestionarios PROM, junto a diversas necesidades que manifestaron los cuidadores de adultos con DI; entre ellas: las relaciones conyugales, problemas de salud, aspectos financieros, habilidades emocionales, la adaptación de los tratamientos en función del momento evolutivo y planes futuros de ocio para sus familiares con DI. Se concluye que es necesario seguir investigando y creando instrumentos de evaluación que midan tanto la calidad de vida como la calidad de los servicios que reciben los cuidadores de adultos con DI. Es importante incluir la Terapia Ocupacional en esta investigación, ya que es una disciplina novedosa que también requiere una evaluación de la calidad de los servicios que ofrece y el acompañamiento que se puede realizar desde esta disciplina a los cuidadores de adultos con DI.

Intellectual disability (ID) is understood as a series of significant limitations originating before the age of 18 years in a chronic form. There is evidence on the high level of stress of caregivers of adults with ID and how occupational therapy improves their quality of life. The aim of the present study was to determine metrics that evaluate the life experience of caregivers of adults with intellectual disabilities from different points of view: the quality of the service provided from the health and social areas including occupational therapy and the perception of their quality of life. Therefore, a literature review of the scientific literature was carried out between 2013 and 2023, using the main health sciences database (Pubmed), such search resulted in 5 articles that met inclusion criteria. A PREM questionnaire and four PROM questionnaires were found, along with various needs expressed by caregivers of adults with ID; among them: marital relationships, health problems, financial aspects, emotional skills, adaptation of treatments according to the evolutionary moment and future leisure plans for their family members with ID. It is concluded that it is necessary to continue researching and creating evaluation instruments that measure both the quality of life and the quality of services received by caregivers of adults with ID. It is important to include occupational therapy in this research, since it is a novel discipline that must demonstrate the efficacy of its treatments.
