Intraspecific competition is an important factor in population dynamics. Vultures are a group of gregarious birds that compete with each other, both within their own species and with other vulture species, for the sole resource they consume, carrion. These birds play a significant role in ecosystems as primary consumers of carrion, but their populations are increasingly declining. This study examines the intraspecific competition of a New World vulture, the King Vulture, for carrion and how age affects the hierarchy of competition. The results show that older individuals exhibit greater aggression and dominance over younger individuals, as well as greater success in interactions among higher age groups. Additionally, a relationship is observed between competition and other factors such as the amount of available carrion.
