The gradual aging of the population has caused an increasing number of people to become dependent on care. As a result, the quantity of informal caregivers has exponentially risen in recent years. This occupation has been accompanied by an increase in physical ailments, particularly in the lumbar region.
A randomized controlled clinical trial will be conducted in the Santa María de Gracia primary healthcare zone in Murcia, belonging to Area 6. The trial will specifically target informal caregivers affiliated with the aforementioned healthcare center, aiming to implement an intervention that prevents or improves physical discomfort related to improper techniques used during mobility and postural changes. Data will be collected using the SF-12 scales, the Roland Morris questionnaire, and the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia. Two interventions will be performed: the first one will focus on explaining the correct techniques for mobilizing physically dependent individuals, and the second one will provide an exercise routine to be performed before and during mobility maneuvers, as well as exercises for toning the dorsal and lumbar muscles. The selected sample consists of 286 individuals, who will be divided into two groups: one group will receive the intervention, while the other will serve as the control group, receiving no intervention. Each group will comprise 143 informal caregivers.
The project has obtained approval from the COIR of the Miguel Hernández University in Elche. Additionally, approval will be sought from the Ethics Committee of the Morales Meseguer University Hospital, and the trial will be registered in Clinical Trials.
