The democratisation of the Internet has opened up new forms of communication, among which social networks
stand out. Currently, most adolescents and young people are register in social networks, and use them as the main
means of communication in their daily lives, which implies risks related to excessive and addictive use. The aim of
this research is to analyse the perceptions of students and teachers in Mexico in relation to the level of addiction to
social networks among students. The sample consisted of 17,600 students and 1,480 teachers at the high school level,
and the instrument used was the Social Media Addiction Scale Student Form (SMS-SF), translated, adapted and
validated for the Mexican context. The results include significant differences between the perception of students
and teachers in relation to the levels of addiction that students present with respect to social networks.
