Professional burnout involves a response to chronic stressors at work, manifesting as exhaustion, depersonalization and decreased productivity. For its part, compassion fatigue is conceptualized as the emotional and behavioral response that occurs when maintaining contact with the traumatic events experienced by another person. Furthermore, this situation can lead to the development of symptoms compatible with Post-traumatic stress disorder. Human services workers are vulnerable to suffering from burnout. Moreover, there is a special risk of suffering compassion fatigue among workers who intervene in trauma contexts in the child population. The main objective of this work is to know the epidemiology of burnout and compassion fatigue among professional caregivers in child protection, with specific objectives being to achieve a better understanding of this field, promote care for the caregiver and to provide the basis for an adequate approach from the organization. A systematic review was carried out following the PRISMA protocol, searching the databases PubMed, ProQuest, PILOTS, PsycINFO, Web of Science and Scopus, from which a total of 221 references have been obtained. Finally, there has been a selection of nine articles from the references previously mentioned. The results indicate an affectation with moderate to high levels of burnout and compassion fatigue among Child Protection professionals, demonstrating that these workers are a particularly vulnerable population. Apart from this, there is evidence of risk and protection factors that can be addressed by the organization.
