Violencia de pareja en adolescentes y adultos maltratados en la infancia: Papel mediador del TEPT

Abstract

Marco teórico: Tanto el maltrato infantil como la violencia de pareja representan un grave problema de salud pública que afecta cada año a millones de personas en todo el mundo. Este estudio tiene como objetivo realizar una revisión de la literatura, señalando el papel mediador del trastorno de estrés postraumático (TEPT)en las asociaciones entre el maltrato infantil y la violencia de pareja, dadas las asociaciones conocidas entre el maltrato infantil, el TEPT, la ira y la agresión en la pareja. También nos propusimos investigar los mecanismos que pudiesen explicar el papel mediador del TEPT en estas asociaciones. Métodos: Se ha realizado una revisión sistemática de la literatura científica existente sobre el tema a través de diferentes bases de datos(MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PsycArtycles)durante el período 1995-2018.Resultados: Se obtuvieron un total de 49publicaciones.Según lo observado en las diversas publicaciones, la teoría y la investigación se han centrado en explicar los posibles enlaces teóricos entre el maltrato infantil y la perpetración de violencia de pareja y se ha sugerido que puede operar, de modo indirecto, a través del los síntomas del TEPT y la ira. Conclusiones: El papel mediador del TEPT entre el maltrato infantil y la violencia de pareja tiene implicaciones importantes para guiar futuras investigaciones sobre estos temas y diseñar programas de prevención y tratamiento

Theoretical Framework:Both child abuse and intimate partner violence represent a serious public health problem that affects millions of people around the world every year. The aim of this study is to review the literature, pointing out the mediating role of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the associations between child abuse and intimate partner violence, given the known associations between child maltreatment, PTSD, anger and aggression in the couple. We also set out to investigate the mechanisms that could explain the mediating role of PTSD in these associations.Methods:A systematic review of the existing scientific literature on the subject was carried out through different databases (MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PsycArtycles) during the period 1995-2018. Results:A total of 49 publications were found. As observed in the severalpublications, theory and research have focused on explaining the possible theoretical links between child abuse and the perpetration of partner violence and it has been suggested that it can operate, indirectly, through the symptoms of PTSD and anger.Conclusions:The mediating role of PTSD between child maltreatment and intimate partner violence has important implications for guiding future research on these issues and designing prevention and treatment programs
