Resumen :
Antecedentes: Las queratosis seborreicas (QS) son uno de los tumores epidérmicos más frecuentes. Sin embargo, no hay una evidencia clara sobre los factores de riesgo para desarrollar este tipo de lesiones. Background: The seborrheic keratosis (SK) is one of the most common epidermal tumours. However, there is no clear evidence on the risk factors for developing SK. Objective: Study if the number of SK increase with age, and is related to skin phototype, history of melanoma and no melanoma skin cancer, and chronic sun exposure. Scope of the study: Valencian Community. Health Department, number 19. Pigmented Lesions and Melanoma Consultation at Dermatology service, in the General University Hospital of Alicante (HGUA). Methods: 211 patients of legal age, who attended the consultation were studied. An observational, cross-sectional study carried out. The data were collected by a 6th year Medicine student, trained and supervised by a dermatologist expert in pigmented lesions. In the first place, the study of the distribution of continuous variable (age) was carried out to decide which measures of central tendency and dispersion to use. Distribution of age was normal, so we used the mean and standard deviation, and t Student test to compare continuous and qualitative variables. Qualitative variables were expressed as a number and as a percentage. We subsequently tested associations between them using Chi-square test, Odds Ratio (OR) with its Confidence Interval at 95% (95%CI) were used to quantify magnitude of the association. Significant associations in univariate analysis were tested in multivariate analysis logistic regression models in order to calculate the adjusted OR at 95% CI. The level of statistical significance used in the hypothesis contrasts was p<0.05. Results: Significant associations were noticed between number of SK and different variables. We observed an increased risk of having ≥50 SK in: be over 54 years old (54-67 years age group OR=21.8, and >67 years group OR=61.1), patients with light skin phototype (OR=2.3), light hair colour (OR=2.4), personal history of melanoma (OR=2.2), basal cell carcinoma (OR=3.9), squamous cell carcinoma (OR=3.3), actinic keratoses (OR=4.1), guttate hypomelanosis (OR=3.6) and solar lentigines (OR=4.9). Regarding number of nevus, if comparison group is <50 nevus, having >100 nevus was a protective factor for the development of SK (OR=0.1). Multivariate analysis showed that be over 54 years old (54-67 years age group aOR=13.5, and >67 years group aOR=30.3) and hair colour (aOR=2.8) are the risk factors that were associated independently with the number of SK. Conclusion: The risk for having ≥50 SK was increased with age and hair colour with a significant and independent relationship.
