Representación social de la fisioterapia en los medios de comunicación: un estudio observacional a través de la prensa.

Abstract

Introducción: Los medios de comunicación tienen la función de informar, educar y entretener a la población. Para la fisioterapia que está en una continua evolución, es fundamental darse a conocer a través de distintas maneras para que la gente pueda conocer los beneficios que tiene y en qué situaciones puede ser de utilidad. Un método para darse a conocer es la prensa escrita, en la que se puede reflejar qué opinión tiene la sociedad sobre cualquier tema. Objetivo: Valorar la representación de la fisioterapia en la prensa escrita de España. Material y métodos: Se llevó a cabo una búsqueda en las bases de datos online de los 4 medios de comunicación generales: El País, La Vanguardia, El Mundo y ABC. Estas noticias fueron publicadas en el año 2021 y debían incluir los términos “fisioterapia” y “fisioterapeuta” combinados con el operador booleano “OR”. Resultados: Se obtuvieron 251 resultados que se agruparon en distintas secciones según la temática de estos: Salud con 88 artículos, 86 de deportes, 50 de sociedad, 26 en otros y 5 en tecnología/innovación. Dentro de cada categoría se destaca una materia excepto en el apartado sociedad en la cual se generalizan todas y en otros porque son varias secciones agrupadas. Por otro lado, en salud la principal es el Covid 19 mientras que en deportes lo es el fútbol y tecnología/innovación presenta nuevas tecnologías para el tratamiento fisioterápico. Conclusiones: Los medios de comunicación nacionales en el año 2021 han representado la fisioterapia de distintas formas que abarcan temas de todo tipo que han ligado al contexto pandémico y las demandas de la sociedad. Como consecuencia, esto ha provocado que la fisioterapia tenga un mayor impacto en la prensa y en la población en general cómo se ha visto representado en los resultados del estudio.

Introduction: The media have the function of informing, educating and entertaining the population. For physiotherapy that is in a continuous evolution it is essential to be known through different ways so that people can know the benefits it has and in what situations it can be useful. One method of making oneself known is the written press in which it can be reflected what opinion society has on any subject. Objective: To evaluate the representation of physiotherapy in the Spanish written press. Material and methods: A search was carried out in the online databases of the 4 general media: El País, La Vanguardia, El Mundo and ABC. These news items were published in 2021 and were to include the terms "physiotherapy" and "physiotherapist" combined with the Boolean operator "OR". Results: 251 results were obtained that were grouped in different sections according to the subject of these: Health with 88 articles, 86 sports, 50 society, 26 others and 5 technology/innovation. Within each category a subject stands out except in the section society in which all are generalized and in others because there are several sections grouped, in health the main one is the Covid 19 while in sports it is football and technology/innovation presents new technologies for physiotherapy treatment. Conclusions: The national media in 2021 represented physiotherapy in different ways, covering topics of all kinds that have linked to the pandemic context and the demands of society, causing physiotherapy to have a greater impact on the press and society at large as represented in the results of the study.
