The advancement of technology has made possible a coexistence between the media and
social networks, speed and large masses of information in multiple formats is the new present
and future within the media landscape of sport. That is why the great football clubs at a
professional level have a presence in almost all social networks of the moment, these function
as a showcase to retain supporters, gain followers and above all as a communication bridge
between the club, fans and the press. The digitization process of Elche Club de Fútbol is also
part of a commercial strategy for sports purposes, with a clear objective, to personalize the
message to the outside. With this, it is intended to sell an image and a feeling through
information. One of the most extraordinary innovations in the communicative management of
sport is the press office of the football club itself, they behave like the media. An informative
competition has emerged within sports journalism, one that works from within and that does
not allow access as lightly to players, coaches or presidents as was done before. Now the
relations between media and teams are somewhat colder. Football clubs use their own
corporate communication to decide what, how and when data and news will be transmitted,
everything that comes from outside will not be real if they have not been responsible for its
dissemination in other media.
The evolution of social networks has become the high point of sports communication and one
of the most used strategies by big teams. A situation that worsened much more during the
COVID-19 pandemic, the whole world stopped, and therefore also football. But the digital
entertainment content in the official accounts helped them to face the economic downturn and
break down obstacles.
