Objective
To estimate the degree of compliance (DC) of Hand Hygiene (HH) in the Hospital General Universitario Dr. Balmis of Alicante: period 2018 to the 1st semester 2022. To determine evolution and the association of related factors. Methods
Observational cross-sectional study repeated over time, by direct observation during the daily activity of the healthcare worker. A total of 9083 MH opportunities were collected during 2018 and 2019, and 5821 during 2020 to 2022, with different explanatory variables (department, area of care, WHO moment, etc). Chi-square was used for the association study and to calculate the magnitude of association, crude and adjusted Odds Ratios, using a logistic regression model. Results: The DC of HH increased (p<0.001) to 70.1% in the pandemic period compared to the baseline (54.5%), remaining constant in 2020 (66.5%), 2021 (73%) and 2022 (65.3%). Significantly and independently associated factors were time period, medical and critical areas, attendance at training sessions, availability of alcohol solution in pocket format and WHO moments 3, 4 and 5. Conclusion
The DC of HH increased with respect to the pre-pandemic period by COVID-19, at the expense of moments 3, 4 and 5, and remained constant during the evolution of the pandemic period.
