In recent years, journalism has gone through a turbulent period. The crisis had an impact on the media, resulting in a business model based on advertising, the so-called "citizen journalism" which also signifies an increasing presence of social networks in the news. In this context, the need for a new process of transformation and adaptation of journalism in the information industry is necessary, which has become ever more apparent in Spanish media: innovation.
In the degree-final dissertation at hand, we intend to analyse his concept through four semi-structured interviews with innovative professionals who have developed an alternative approach to traditional journalism. The objective of this project has been to study the origins and nature, strategy, working method and level of innovation of each of these pieces of media and journalist initiatives: Fundación Ciudadana Civio, freelance and mobile journalism, Revista 5W and RTVE’s Laboratorio de Innovación Audiovisual. We will attempt to comment on the topics underlying the main one, and the debates that arise, falling back on the work of these four experts on the matter.
As our research develops, we will seek to stand from where current professionals undertake processes of change that lead the way to new approaches, the creation of internalmedia departments such as innovation labs, and new ways of telling the same old stories.
This work covers a process; the leap from what we consider conventional journalism, which in the words of the professor Juan Luis Manfredi, consists in the repetition of mechanical processes in the production, distribution and dissemination of information of a journalistic nature, to innovative journalism. The latter provides new ways of working with information, journalistic news and it is structured according to its basic areas, essential in the work: the product, production and distribution processes, organization and marketing.
