Forest fires are currently occurring in a more recurrent and devastating way, so in many cases a post-fire action is carried out to minimize damage to edaphic properties. Organic matter is essential for the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil, which in many cases leads to the use of organic amendments to improve their quality after the fire. In this study we have analyzed the main chemical and biological properties of the soil. Comparing a burning ground treated with compost (CPST), with a reference soil (SV), a burnt soil without treatment (Q) and a control soil in which we have planted and covered with mulch (C). In general, an improvement in the chemical properties of the CPST treated soil has been obtained compared to the Q. We have obtained a significant difference in the increase in the three chemical properties observed (organic carbon, phosphorus and nitrogen), the amount of these being higher that even in the SV. The addition of compost has increased the microbiological activity of the soil, measured with the basal respiration of the soil, an improvement that has not been observed in the other microbiological properties. We can assume that these microbiological properties will be increased in the future associated with the improvement in chemical properties. So we conclude that the application of vegetable compost can help the recovery of a soil after the passage of a fire.
