La magia de Ambessa. El poder de la buena acción

Abstract

Un día me pregunté: ¿qué puedo hacer por este mundo hoy sin arrepentirme mañana? Hace tiempo aprendí que para transformar la sociedad en una verdadera humanidad necesitamos ayudar a los demás con buenas acciones. Ayudar es nuestro superpoder. En ese momento estaba sentada sobre el húmedo césped que cubría los alrededores de Casa Ankelba. Con Hannah a mi lado, escribía en mi cuaderno. Tenía delante de mí un mundo cargado de sufrimiento. Gente herida por la pobreza y la miseria en sus niveles más inhumanos. Pero no estaban solos, ahí estábamos nosotros con nuestras ilusiones por crear un lugar más bonito. Ambessa es una pequeña ONG de la región de Oromia, en la ciudad de Holeta Genet, a unos 45 km de la capital de Etiopía. La organización nació con el proyecto ‘Casa Ankelba’. Su primer objetivo es proteger a la población infantil de la zona; rescatando a los niños de la indigencia, la desnutrición y la orfandad. Ambessa fomenta el desarrollo personal y la integración social de la infancia para convertirles en personas autosuficientes y emprendedoras. Además, la ONG ayuda a mujeres en situación de extrema pobreza y afectadas por el VIH/SIDA. El proyecto facilita los medios necesarios para que madres, viudas y solteras sean capaces de salir de la inseguridad, el abandono y la miseria. La ONG trabaja para defender los derechos de los niños y las mujeres. El proyecto Ankelba abarca el sector sanitario, nutricional y educativo.

One day I asked myself: what can I do for this world today without regretting it tomorrow? I learned long ago that to transform society into true humanity we need to help others with good deeds. Helping is our super power. At that time I was sitting on the damp grass that covered the surroundings of Casa Ankelba. With Hannah by my side, I wrote in my notebook. I had in front of me a world full of suffering. People hurt by poverty and misery at their most inhuman levels. But they were not alone, there we were with our hopes for creating a more beautiful place. Ambessa is a small NGO in the Oromia region, in the city of Holeta Genet, about 45 km from the capital of Ethiopia. The organization was born with the ‘Casa Ankelba’ project. Its first objective is to protect the child population in the area; rescuing children from destitution, malnutrition and orphanhood. Ambessa encourages personal development and social integration of children to make them self-sufficient and enterprising people. In addition, the NGO helps women in extreme poverty and affected by HIV/AIDS. The project provides the necessary means for mothers, widows and single women to be able to get out of insecurity, abandonment and penury. The NGO works to defend the rights of children and women. The Ankelba project covers the health, nutrition and education sector.
