Since the beginning of the 21st century until now, the Communication departments of
professional football clubs in Spain have undergone a great evolution. At the same time,
the presence of women in the sports field has increased over time, which is why this work

aims to investigate the current employment situation of women in the Communication
departments of professionals football teams.
The research carried out focuses on seven clubs in the Second Division and one in the First
Division, in which the role of women within their communication departments is
quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed.
The execution of the study has a double purpose. On the one hand, the functions, strategies
and objectives of the communication departments analyzed are exposed and compared
with each other. On the other hand, the aim is to find out what the role of the women who
are members of these departments is, find out if there is equal pay compared to their male
colleagues and if these departments have more male or female employees.
Of the 42 communication departments in the First and Second Division football teams in
Spain, there are only 6 that have a woman at the head of their department. There are more
men than women dedicated to communication in the soccer teams of these two categories.
