Six athletes give us a first-hand look at the world of Adapted sports with a functional diversity perspective. Carmen Giménez –international athlete–, Ricardo Ten –Paralympic swimmer and cyclist–, Lionel Morales –Paralympic triathlete–, Gabriel Teruel –wheelchair slalom and tennis athlete–, David Fernández –international shot putter–, and Toni Ponce –Paralympic swimmer– tell us in this interview how their sporting careers have evolved from their beginnings to the present and how Adapted sports in Spain have evolved from their own experiences. Some of these athletes have been involved in Adapted sports for more than twenty years, some of them in the elite for decades, and they have first-hand experienced this evolution. There is no one better than them to tell the barriers they find every day to evolve within their own sport disciplines. On this podcast, the athletes narrate how they live with functional diversity, how they discovered Adapted sports and how they started and evolved until they reached the top. Also, topics such as what people tend think about Adapted sports arose from these conversations, since it is common to find many stereotypes about this world. The athletes also tell their own personal experiences, how functional diversity has affected them and how their recoveries were, where the role of sport stands out. In addition, during the interview the issue of the material needed for these kind of sports –such as prostheses and adapted chairs– is discussed, this being one of the main handicaps of Adapted sport.
