Fiction series have become one the hob-bies around the world in the last ten years. These audio-visual products are well accepted by female audience. Video on Demand platforms and channels such as Netflix, Prime Video and HBO have raised the release of these products. This increase in production has given the pos-sibility to female showrunners to create. They all present plots in which female characters are starring. This article seeks to determine if there is a distinction in the representation of male and fe-male characters in the plots developed by female showrunners, how they construct the psy-chology of the characters, and if there is a comparison between the hero’s journey and that of the heroine. Virgin River has been chosen as the product to analyse in this research. Vir-gin River has two seasons developed by four female scriptwriters and one male scriptwriter. We verify with this study that the female protagonist is an actantial subject of the plots and subplots that are part of the female issues of the 21st century where it is reflected how the paradigm shift within the mainstream narrative is currently linked to female authorship.
