Introduction: The auditory system performs essential functions throughout the life. In each of
the parts that compose it will appear statoacoustic cellular structures in charge of performing
these functions. The VIII cranial pair gains importance in the transmission of the nerve impulses
received by these structures to the nervous system. An injury or malformation of this nerve can
affect both the auditory system and the vestibular system.
Working hypothesis: The study of the distribution of Pou4f1 in late stages will improve the
understanding of the formation of the VIII cranial pair.
Objective: To perform a descriptive study of the distribution of the proteins -Galactoxidasa
and Islet1 during the embryonic development of the auditory system in the mouse
Pou4f1TAULacZ.
Materials and methods: This study has been developed using immunohistochemical method
and basic histological staining in mouse embryo brain sections at three different stages.
Results: The marker Pou4f1 shows the development of the VIII cranial pair. The Islet1 marker,
shows the sensitive epithelium of the area and the histological staining reveals cellular
structures. The neural components of the auditory system are shown in different stages.
Discussion: The present study follows the research of one earlier in very early stages, where we
also described the expression of genes used in proliferating cells.
Conclusions: It is concluded that the mouse used allows to observe the formation of the VIII
cranial pair, both its neuronal populations and its axonal projections.
