Revisión bibliográfica. Funciones ejecutivas en pacientes oncológicos

Abstract

Introducción: El cáncer es una enfermedad en la que las células se alteran multiplicándose de forma incontrolada y continuada. Existen diversos tratamientos para el cáncer, cuyos efectos secundarios provocan alteraciones en las funciones ejecutivas. Las funciones ejecutivas son un conjunto de habilidades cognitivas que dirigen la conducta hacia la resolución de problemas de alta complejidad. Objetivo: Comprobar si existe evidencia científica sobre la posible alteración de las funciones ejecutivas en pacientes oncológicos. Material y método: Revisión bibliográfica cuya base de datos utilizada ha sido Pubmed. Se han realizado tres búsquedas: 1) Utilizando como términos de búsqueda “executive function” y “cancer patients” en “abstract, title”; 2) términos de búsqueda “executive function” en “title” y “cancer” en “abstract, title”; 3) los términos han sido “executive function” y “cancer” en “abstract, title”. En las tres búsquedas se han aplicado los filtros “inglés, español y últimos diez años”. Resultados: Se obtuvieron un total de 181 artículos. Una vez aplicados los criterios de exclusión y eliminar los duplicados, resulta un total de 101 artículos revisables. Conclusión: La revisión pone de manifiesto la existencia alteración de las funciones ejecutivas en pacientes oncológicos.

Introduction: Cancer is a disease in which there is an uncontrolled and continuous cell disruption. There are several cancer treatments whose side-effects cause some disturbances in the executive functions. Executive functions are a set of cognitive processes that lead behaviour to the resolution of high complexity problems. Objective: Check if there is any scientific evidence of a possible disturbance of executive functions in cancer patients. Material and Methods: A bibliographic review has been done by the database Pubmed. There have been three researches: 1) Using “executive function” and “cancer patients” as search terms in “abstract, title”; 2) “executive function” as search terms in “title”, and “cancer” in “abstract, title”; 3) the search terms have been “executive function” and “cancer” in “abstract, title” In all three searches the “English, Spanish and last ten years” filters have been applied. Results: There were a total of 181 articles. Once the deferral and the removing duplicates criteria were applied, there were a total of 101 checkable articles. Conclusions: The research demonstrate a disturbance of the executive functions in cancer patients.
